Following a wave of shocking insults directed at young winger Amad Diallo by club supporters, Manchester United has publicly stepped in to provide psychological support to the player. The incident was triggered by a photo Diallo posted alongside his former teammate, Argentine winger Alejandro Garnacho, after United’s bittersweet victory over Chelsea at Old Trafford.

Diallo became the target of numerous offensive messages after sharing the image, which showed him holding Garnacho’s blue Chelsea shirt while Garnacho held Diallo’s red United jersey — a gesture that deeply upset many Old Trafford fans. Garnacho, once a United prospect, joined Chelsea this summer, a move that added fuel to the backlash.

In response to the abuse, Diallo deleted all posts from his Instagram account. On Monday, United took steps to monitor his mental well-being. According to reports, the player is said to be “doing fine,” although the photo was described as “naive.”

Both Diallo and Garnacho are represented by the same agency and reportedly grew close during their time together at United. Garnacho left the club this summer in a £40 million ($54 million) transfer to Chelsea.

This season, Diallo has featured in five Premier League matches, registering one assist. Garnacho, meanwhile, has made just one top-flight appearance for Chelsea, following his involvement in Ruben Amorim’s explosive reshuffle at Old Trafford.
