Manchester City has gifted a luxury car worth £280,000 to their former sporting director Txiki Begiristain as the Spaniard departs the Premier League giants after 13 years of service. On August 1, City officially announced the departure of their long-time executive. Begiristain oversaw the most successful period in City’s history, during which the club won 21 major men’s titles under his leadership.
According to reports, City presented Begiristain with a £280,000 Bentley Continental GT as a parting gift after he left the club last month following more than a decade of service. The Bentley is customized in the club’s signature sky-blue color and comes with a Spanish license plate and a left-hand drive, allowing the 61-year-old to enjoy the car back in his home country.
During his 13-year tenure, City captured 21 major trophies, including seven Premier League titles, two FA Cups, one Champions League, a FIFA Club World Cup, and a UEFA Super Cup. Begiristain also oversaw several key Academy and Ballon d’Or accolades. Since joining the Cityzens in 2012, he played a pivotal role in bringing two renowned managers to the Etihad Stadium—Manuel Pellegrini and Pep Guardiola.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has often praised Begiristain’s immense contribution to the club’s phenomenal success. The two had previously worked together at Barcelona, where Begiristain, then a key executive, was instrumental in promoting Guardiola to head coach of the first team. They had also shared the pitch as teammates during their playing days with the Blaugrana.
