Former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley claimed that head coach Amorim "can't play Altay Bayindir" because the goalkeeper was struggling at the start of the season. But also the former midfielder was highly critical of Manchester United's Cameroon international goalkeeper Andre Onana for his perceived poor performances since his arrival for more than £47 million ($63.5 million) from Inter Milan.
For him: "Altay Bayindir, we can't play him; it's perhaps possible that he's good at stopping balls, which is what goalkeepers do, but no solution to see him in the management of set pieces."
Another player from Manchester United who has flopped is Onana. He was very expensive, but he hasn't been able to regulate a back four. We thought Onana would be the exceptional goalkeeper, as we were told from the matches in Italy. Thinking he was going to have a Peter Schmeichel-like aura or lead the troops, it hasn't really happened. If this young man arrives and suddenly starts getting angry in all directions, it's the end>>.
United acknowledged their need for a new goalkeeper by signing Senne Lammens, offered by Antwerp, on the last day of the transfer window, some deem the purchase hasty, and Burley believes it will be a mountain for the 23-year-old.
And again he comes back: "This lack of experience [of Lammens] in his new functions will be a disadvantage to enter a world of goalkeepers in a 4-man scheme. But he must be able to manage a defence, make saves, command his area, be present at set-pieces, that is what all teams will throw at United: balls both over and on the ground into the area the keeper has to operate in, he will sink or swim. For now, we don't know if he has the required skills to deal with this situation.
