Xavi Simons' time at RB Leipzig ended in chaos between a "dangerous" incident in Brazil and a falling out with his managers before his transfer to Tottenham.

Like Simons at RB Leipzig, according to a confirmed reputation from the German media, the Dutch striker in the second half of the season, would have spent the summer of 2023 being the subject of a hot rumour about him, while his situation and his relations with the club's officials had become turbulent: the latest indiscretions would have further exacerbated a more than cool climate between the Dutch international and the Bundesliga club's staff, while the transfer affair had turned out to be washed in the ink of irrefutable fake news in the sports press, unfortunate indirect effects on the world of football. All of this did not make a very expensive and highly coveted Simons immovable, who calmly took the direction and support of his clubmates, until he quite abruptly took the direction of Sec last.

All's well that ends well, with the midfielder eventually opting – and for a record fee of €60m (£50m/$65m) – as much for the club that has signed him, it would seem, as for the excitement of the move, with Tottenham and the Londoners' supporters, respectively, beating Chelsea and Bayern Munich to the player, and no doubt about what comes next!

In hindsight, the Munich club might have thought they had avoided a risky investment despite the player's displayed potential. Spurs, on the other hand, decided to act firmly by making Simons the club's number 7 with a central role in the reconstruction demanded by Thomas Frank. For the player, it is the long-awaited move to an English league that will allow him to enjoy all the responsibility he desires but also the promised freedom that his game responds to.

For Leipzig, Simons' departure will have closed a brilliant but turbulent chapter: on the one hand, among the offensive elements, he was one of the best, but on the other hand, his off-field choices, his duels with the management, and his questionable professionalism could have strained a locker room that for Tottenham, he rather designates as a rising star to compensate for James Maddison's injury.
